What are motorway reflective studs?

Reflective studs also called motorway studs, or reflective cat’s eyes, are indispensable reflective materials in almost every route. They are manufactured from a variety of materials of aluminum, plastic, and reflective film, suitable for national motorways, highways, urban areas, etc. to help vehicle drivers easily navigate the lanes of the road to move in dark or bad weather conditions.


What colour are the reflective studs?

There are currently 5 different types of coloured studs on a motorway:

- RED: Red motorway studs are reflective studs between hard shoulder and left-hand lane of the motorway, in other words, along the hard shoulder of both motorways and dual carriageways. They can also be found on the left of certain A or busy B roads.

- AMBER: To the far right, amber reflective studs run beside the central reservation.

- GREEN: Green is the reflective studs between a motorway and its slip road, which indicate where a junction either joins or leaves a motorway.

- WHITE: White motorway studs are placed in the midst of the lanes of dual carriageways or motorways.

- BLUE: Blue motorway studs can sometimes be seen and are used for cases of emergency services.
