What are anti-lock brakes?

When you hit the brakes aggressively, the anti-lock braking system (ABS) prevents your automobile from skidding. When a motorist brakes forcefully while driving at high speeds, the wheels may lock. This can cause the automobile to lose traction and the driver to lose steering control. ABS reduces the likelihood of this situation.

Each wheel hub on a car with ABS has a sensor that can tell how fast each wheel is rotating as well as the rate of acceleration and deceleration.
