Question:
Having your car registration number etched on all your windows is a cheap and effective way to deter professional car thieves.
What Is VIN Etching?
Purchasing a new automobile may be loaded with anxiety and scepticism, especially if you have no idea what you're looking at when the salesperson goes through the price with you. Aside from the standard taxes and fees, you may be charged for extras like as running boards or even supplementary services such as VIN etching. But what exactly is VIN etching, and is it a scam?
Simply explained, VIN etching is the process by which a dealer inscribes the vehicle identifying number (VIN) on all of the car's windows and windscreen. It's a simple procedure designed to prevent potential thieves. The VIN of a car is unique to that vehicle, and the series of alphanumeric characters may be found on several panels of the vehicle, including the doors, engine bay, and trunk.
The idea behind VIN etching the car's windows is that if a thief takes your car and attempts to resell it, they'll have to change the windows and windscreen first. Car thieves would have to reinstall the windows, which would be too expensive or time-consuming for them because they normally scratch off the VIN stickers and engravings on the car before selling or stripping it. Replacing the windows would offset the benefit from selling the automobile or its parts.

Helping my daughter with the theory side of the test. Only wish we’d found it earlier on! Even I’m learning/getting reminded of what things mean again!
