What is Pass Plus?

Pass Plus is a practical training course for drivers to hone their skills and drive more safely that lasts at least 6 hours. Although it can be taken at any time, new drivers should find it most helpful the year after passing their test. Only a Pass Plus registered approved driving instructor (ADI) can teach you.

How to book Pass Plus?

Pass Plus must be scheduled through a Pass Plus registered approved driving instructor (ADI). If you want to find out if an instructor is registered with Pass Plus, you can get in touch with the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA). Both their name and ADI number are required.

How Pass Plus training works

At least 6 hours are needed for Pass Plus training. There are six modules which cover driving:

- in town

- in all weathers

- on rural roads

- at night

- on dual carriageways

- on motorways

Although some may be theory-based depending on local conditions, all modules should be practical sessions. Typically, you are required to spend at least 5.5 hours driving. There won't be a test, but you will be evaluated often. You must achieve the required standard in each module to pass.

Car insurance discounts

After completing Pass Plus, you might be eligible for a discount on your car insurance. Your Pass Plus certificate is required. If you passed your practical driving test more than a year ago, ask your insurance provider if you can still receive a discount. The insurance company determines the discount's amount. Pass Plus discounts are not available from all insurers. If you don't currently own a car, you might be allowed to postpone the discount for up to 2 years; however, you should first check with the insurance provider.
