Related Information

For whatever reason, the police have the right to stop a vehicle. Always pull over when it's safe to do so if they ask you to stop. If you keep driving, you will be breaking the law. The police have the right to request to see your driving licence, insurance certificate, and MOT certificate. You have seven days to bring these documents to a police station if you don't have them with you at that moment. If you fail to provide the specified documentation within 7 days, you are in violation of the law.

In addition, the police have the authority to order you to take a breath test under specific conditions and issue you an on-the-spot fixed penalty notice for a number of minor offences. If you are pulled over on suspicion of driving without insurance and for some other offences, you can also have your vehicle seized.
